Paul Fontaine was an American and expatriate abstract expressionist painter 1913-1996. The Fontaine Gallery was founded in 1999 to share with the world the immense richness and depth that Paul Fontaine expressed through his painting that spanned three countries: United States, Germany and Mexico and almost the entire 20th century.

The intent is to provide a site for the many collectors of his work to learn the background and extent of his vast oeuvre of over 700 paintings. You will find biographical details, complete list of exhibitions, and works for sale.

They join my prayers! They clasp their hands to you!' 1Eccentric and imaginative, Salvador Dali’s repertoire extended far beyond his painting. In the 1950s, Dali was commissioned by the Italian Minister of Culture to illustrate a special edition of Dante’s Divine Comedy, which was released on the 700th Anniversary of Dante’s birth in 1965. The Divine Comedy Suite is made up of 100 colour woodcuts produced between 1960 and 1964.2The imagery that Dali created for Paradiso 33, the final canto of Dante's work, depicts three figures in prayer, possibly representing Inferno, Purgatory, and Paradise.

Dali’s ethereal illustrations for the suite complement Dante’s text beautifully. The illustrations were originally slipped into folded sheets on which the text was typeset so that the illustrations could be viewed alongside the text. This particular work which is printed on watermarked BFK Rives paper has been authenticated by Frank Hunter of The Salvador Dali Archives Ltd in New York, and is signed by Frank Hunter on the reverse.

Warwick was well known for his idyllic water colours of Cambridge university scenes in the 1950s and was an established artist with a track record of credible work. Sadly he became ill with a tumour of the brain in the early 1960s and his work changed dramatically from painting every day scenes of a sleepy university town to garish depictions of a Dali-esque nature as the disease progressed. The present paintings will be of interest to collectors of unusual art, or those with an interest in the effect of disease on how the human mind changes, manifest through distinctive art (3).
